My last two Wordless Wednesday posts have featured Captain Cook and Bram Stoker, both well known past residents in Whitby, Yorkshire. This week I thought I'd share another Whitby gem - Fortune's kipper shop! For the past 130 years, Fortune's have been fishing for herrings and then wood-smoking their freshly caught haul behind their tiny shop. The 2nd and 3rd photos above were taken after a quick peek inside the smoking shed with it's thickly soot blackened walls. If you like smokey flavours you'd find the kippers absolutely delicious - we had ours for breakfast next morning. We also took home some freshly smoked back bacon, and that was delicious too!
