Wordless Wednesday 2013 #10 - Gold Post Box
Yes, I know it's Wordless Wednesday, but I though this photo might need a few words of explanation! Red has been the standard colour for UK post boxes since 1874, but during the London 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games the Royal Mail painted one of the red post boxes gold - every time a Team GB member won a gold medal. And they will stay gold permanently gold to mark the achievements of all the athletes. This one was painted to celebrate the gold medal won by Peter Wilson in the Double Trap shooting final, and is outside the Post Office in Peter's home town of Sherborne, Dorset. We visited Sherborne last week on the way to Devon and, even though there are more than 100 of them, this was the first gold post box I'd seen!
