Wordless Wednesday 2013 #26 - Great Spotted Woodpecker

This great spotted woodpecker loves to visit our birdtable, and his favourite food is peanuts. You can tell he is male by the distinctive red patch on the back of his head. He's about the same size as a blackbird and although this kind of woodpecker is quite common across England and Wales, you tend not to see them very often because they're rather shy
